MUSEUM CAMPAIGN URGES PEOPLE TO THINK ABOUT A GIFT FOR THE FUTURE

Fundraisers from an award-winning Shropshire museum are appealing to people to think about leaving it a charitable gift in their wills.

The Ironbridge Gorge Museum Trust, which is one of the largest independent museums in the world, launched the campaign this week to urge everyone to support its huge range of education and conservation work.

County solicitors have been invited to an information evening at Coalbrookdale to tell them about the campaign and help spread the word while a new leaflet and website pages have been published in order to encourage people to support the museum – including leaving a gift in their will.

Postcards of the Iron Bridge with a message on the back promoting the campaign have also been given out to visitors this week.

The Trust cares for 36 monuments and listed buildings across six square miles of the Ironbridge Gorge World Heritage Site and operates 10 museums which tell the story of how the area became the birthplace of the Industrial Revolution 300 years ago. Nearly 570,000 people visited the museums last year with more than 70,000 of those being school children.

Ruth Brown, Fundraising Manager, said: “Many people from Shropshire love the museums and they know that the Trust protects our nation’s unique industrial heritage and inspires thousands of children through hands-on innovative learning. The museums attract hundreds of thousands of visitors to the county each year boosting the local economy.

“Leaving a gift in your will to the Trust is a fantastic way to ensure that future generations will be able to enjoy visiting the museums and in these tough economic times it costs you nothing now.

Every gift in every will makes a difference no matter how large or small. Whether you decide to leave £50, £5,000 or more, it will all help us to achieve our mission.”

The campaign launch coincides with a national legacy awareness week from September 13-19.
