Volunteering Opportunities at Green Wood Centre
The Small Woods Association is a UK charity which promotes the sustainable management of small woodlands. Small Woods is based at the Green Wood Centre in the beautiful Ironbridge Gorge where coppice and woodland craft workers have come for training for over 20 years. The Centre houses the stunning ecologically designed Woodland College, a leading example of sustainable building in wood.
Green Wood Centre volunteers do practical tasks to maintain the site buildings and woodland. Our volunteer project is funded by the Veolia Environmental Trust to make some new additions to the Centre’s buildings, creating an educational centre, and a new working shelter, and restoring other buildings.
There will also be the opportunity to extend the path through the woodlands, learn about using the workshop machinery and hand tools, make products and green wood buildings. Volunteers benefit from training and can apply to go on our woodland courses. Without volunteers we could not maintain and develop our centre.
We provide tools, gloves, hot drinks and training. No experience is needed and full instruction is given. We start at 10am from Green Wood Centre, Coalbrookdale and finish at 4pm (times subject to change) every Tuesday until the end of March and then each Thursday.
